an introduction to who i am & why
It all begins with an idea.
vernaculaar structure at vance birthplace - weaverville,nc.
hi, my name is olivia. i am the designer behind studio wideman, and this space, my perspective, is where i explore the ideas, theories, and my thoughts of what is important to help shape the world of design. the quiet details, the typologies, and the visual languages that define places and give meaning to form.
i believe in theory.
i’ve always been drawn to design. design is not only looks - but the feeling you get when in the space. for six years, i’ve studied architecture, theory, and the intention behind the built environment. i am creating my brand to help bridge the gap between theory and successful, expressive design.
i believe in vernacular.
vernacular /vərˈnæk.jə.lər/
the typologies and characteristics which make a place a place.
a home should respond to its environment… the landscape, the culture, the mundane day to day. vernacular is honest. vernacular is the most authentic response to a context.
sustainability /suh-stey-nuh-bil-uh-tee/
the study of practices that provide reciprocity between us and the environment.
education is important to me. i believe in ethics, clariity and discipline. in the world of design - these are all crutial aspects. my intention with my perspective is to share all i have learned, question what i have learned, and use that outcome to create more thoughtful intention within design.
i thank you for joining me and supporting me in this space is where i continue the work of learning, questioning, and shaping a more thoughtful approach to design.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.
Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
